Couderay consists of two distinct local government administrative boundaries:
1. Village of Couderay
Population: ~81–118 residents (US Census / ACS updates).
Density: ~120 people per square mile.
Character: Small residential center containing historic homes, former railroad rights-of-way, and civic buildings.
2. Town of Couderay (Township)
Population: ~278–393 residents.
Area Communities: Encompasses the Village of Couderay, Reserve, Lemington, and parts of Yarnell.
Demographics: A diverse mix of residents, including a significant population of Native American/Ojibwe community members alongside long-standing Northwoods families.
Community Infrastructure & Key Services
Transportation: Accessible primarily via Highway 27/70. The old railroad corridor has since been repurposed into multi-use recreational trails.
Schools: Served primarily by local public school districts (such as Hayward Community School District) and the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe School.
Emergency Services: Local volunteer fire departments, supported by Sawyer County Sheriff's Department and regional EMS responders.

Couderay is a paradise for outdoor sports and outdoor living year-round:
Fishing & Boating: Situated near the Chippewa Flowage (Wisconsin's third-largest inland body of water) and Lac Courte Oreilles, famous for world-record Musky, Walleye, Northern Pike, and Crappie fishing.
ATV / Snowmobile Trails: Located directly on Sawyer County’s extensive network of groomed snowmobile trails and all-terrain vehicle (ATV/UTV) routes.
Hunting & Forestry: Thousands of acres of nearby public county forest land offer prime hunting for white-tailed deer, ruffed grouse, and black bear.
Canoeing & Kayaking: The Couderay River provides scenic paddling routes through quiet woodland habitats.
